In The Beginning...

Mountain View Community Church began in 1997 when a small group of men and women set out on an adventure of faith. Pastor Guy and Lorrie Kneebone and family moved from South East Iowa to plant the church, after having visited the area during the summer of 1997, and receiving commitments from about 10 core families who chose to commit to start the church.

During the months of July and August of 1997 these core families met in their homes for prayer, study, and worship. The Kneebones then moved to Mt. Airy at the end of August and Mountain View began its first public worship service in the chorus room of Urbana High School on September 7, 1997. After meeting for two months in the chorus room with approx. 70 people, the church chose to publicize a Grand Opening on Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997. This special service met in the school auditorium and MVCC has called the auditorium home since that day.

Fortunately we have not had to make a move since that day but we look with anticipation to a permanent "home" some day on our parcel of land that we have been led of the Lord to purchase. On Nov. 15, 2002 we closed on 20 beautiful acres located on Rt. 80 (1 mile west of the 270 and 80 intersection in Urbana). God has blessed us with an excellent "Mountain View," as the land has a great view of Sugarloaf Mountain. In Dec. 2008 we broke ground on our land and we hope to be in our new facility for our Grand Opening sometime in September of 2010.

Mountain View has been serving Frederick County since 1997. That original core group of 10 families has become a growing church. Many new ministries have been started. Genuine care has been provided for a growing number of people. Individuals have come to know Christ in a personal way. And lives have been changed!

The years since those first home groups began meeting in 1997 have been a lot of fun and a lot of work, perhaps more work than any of us envisioned, but it has been all worth it. We believe that God's hand was on this church from the beginning and still is. We pray that He will be glorified as we strive to seek Him and serve Him. We pray that if you are looking for a home church, that you will find Mountain View to be a place that will help you draw closer to the Lord and experience His immense love for you, and where you can become part of an authentic community of faith where you can grow and serve.
